Authorities have identified one of the victims in the tragic double fatal crash on the Sydney Harbour Bridge, as they continue to seek additional footage to help unravel the circumstances behind the head-on collision.
Jamal Choukri, aged 44, was en route to his workplace in Botany when a blue Hyundai i30 suddenly crossed into his lane, colliding head-on with his vehicle. The devastating crash occurred in the afternoon, leaving both drivers dead at the scene.
Originally from Morocco, Choukri had recently relocated to Sydney and worked as a truck driver. Investigators are appealing for anyone with dashcam footage or additional information about the incident to come forward as they work to piece together what led to the deadly accident.
Jamal Choukri was one of two individuals killed in the tragic accident, along with the driver of the blue Hyundai, a 51-year-old man, who also died at the scene.
According to police, early investigations suggest the Hyundai was traveling northbound on the Sydney Harbour Bridge when it veered into the southbound lane, resulting in the devastating head-on collision at around 1:40 p.m.
The impact of the initial crash caused a chain reaction, involving two other cars and a bus. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the incident and are urging anyone with footage or information to assist in their inquiries.
Dashcam Footage Reveals Moments Before Fatal Head-On Collision on Sydney Harbour Bridge
Dashcam footage revealed yesterday captured the moment the Hyundai i30 veered into the wrong lane just before colliding with Jamal Choukri’s vehicle. This tragic incident has sparked renewed calls for improved safety measures on the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Professor Raphael Grzebieta from the University of New South Wales highlighted the risks on the roadway during an interview with 9News, stating, “You can end up in the wrong lane, and before you know it, you’re in a head-on collision. A barrier would prevent that.”
Safety advocates are now urging authorities to consider installing barriers to prevent such fatal accidents in the future.
