The speculation has fueled further intrigue online, with viewers discussing possible connections between the buried rug and unsolved cases in the area, intensifying public interest in the discovery.

“The internet is split, with about 50% thinking it’s a dead body, 50% suspecting it’s an animal, and about 10% believing it’s just a junkyard,” Santry said.

Whats In The Rug

Her eerie journey began with a video about her new home, where she recounted an unsettling incident involving her shattered computer just days after discovering the rug.

“Is there a dead body in that rug? Or is it the ghost of the rug’s past?” she pondered in the video, which displayed items strewn across her desk. “What on earth happened? Is there a ghost breaking my stuff?”

The clip quickly gained traction, and she shared additional footage revealing that the rug was disturbingly buried under a “Bloodgood tree.”

“I pulled a plant tag and said, ‘This is called a Bloodgood tree. If I were a murderer with a sense of humor, I’d plant a Bloodgood tree on top of a dead body and be like, ha!’” she explained to People magazine. “I think that’s the video that really went viral.”

No Evidence of Body Found Under Rug, Says Santry

As viewers speculated about the potential crime scene, she ultimately decided to call the police for further investigation. “I said, ‘Hey, this could be the dumbest call you get today, but there’s a rug in the ground,’” she recalled. Two police officers arrived at her home within 15 minutes.

The officers found the situation odd but informed her that a thorough investigation would take longer. Driven by curiosity, she reached out to the daughter of the couple who had previously owned the house.

The woman said she had no idea why the rug was buried there but promised to ask her elderly parents about it.

Investigation Continues After Viral Rug Discovery

As of Friday, Santry still had no answers, but she confirmed that the investigation was ongoing.

“I truly don’t think there’s a dead body down there,” she remarked. “[But] the curiosity about why that rug is there definitely haunts me.”
