A schoolboy tragically lost his life in a road accident while attempting to retrieve his football, an inquest revealed.
Taylen Ireton, 13, had been playing near the Cherry Tree pub in Colchester, Essex when he was hit by a car.
How Did Taylen Ireton Die?
The young boy was rushed to the hospital following the crash on September 21, but despite efforts, he tragically couldn’t be saved.
The inquest revealed that Taylen’s cause of death was abdominal injuries, with further investigation pending.
Area Coroner Michelle Brown stated, “Taylen was playing football when he went into the road. As he went to get the ball, he was struck by a vehicle. He was taken to the hospital, where he sadly passed away.”
Investigation And Suspect
The full inquest has been adjourned, awaiting the outcome of a criminal investigation.
Two 19-year-old men were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene. Additionally, an 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop after the collision.
All three individuals have been released on bail, with a return date set for December 4.

Tributes
Tributes have poured in for Taylen, who was a dedicated player for Wivenhoe Town FC’s Under-14s team.
The club expressed their sadness, stating, “We are incredibly sad to hear that Taylen, who plays for our Under-14s, was involved in a road traffic collision last night and tragically passed away. Everyone at the club sends their condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.”
Ipswich Town also honored Taylen with a minute’s applause during their match against Aston Villa. Simon Essex, the headteacher at Thomas Lord Audley School, described the popular Year 9 student as “loud, funny, and full of life.”
“Taylen was a remarkable young boy, full of energy and kindness, with an infectious laugh. He had a way of making even the simplest moments unforgettable, and his cheeky grin will be missed,” Essex said. “His warm, generous nature and loyalty to his friends made him beloved by all who knew him. Though his time with us was too short, his impact is immeasurable. His spirit will live on in our hearts, memories, and the stories we will share for years to come.”
